TEAAM is a non-profit, volunteer organization comprised of parents, family members, educators and service providers interested in the field of Autism. Focused on advancing the service potential for Mississippians with autism, as well as those who serve them and those who support them, our organization is dedicated to improving the understanding of Autism through extensive training. TEAAM has developed a statewide autism-training curriculum and has traveled throughout Mississippi providing training to parents, educators, therapists and other professional personnel. TEAAM is also focused on being Mississippi’s central source of information regarding Autism related services and resources.

Our organization is involved in many projects. We have developed a Mississippi resource manual, sponsor an annual state conference on autism spectrum disorders, sponsor the annual state-wide awareness rally, have created an autism-friendly campaign, have taken the lead in designing home and community based waiver services, and we conduct numerous training events across our state throughout the year.

ARAY

TEAAM is very proud to tell you about our new program we call ARAY.  The ARAY program is a series of weekend retreats that are theme driven.  ARAY (Adventures in Recreation for Autistic Youth) is an adventure based program developed for teenagers with Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism and their neuro-typical peers (ages 13 to 19).  ARAY is a one-of-a-kind and a first-of-it's-kind program being developed by TEAAM.  Participants will experience adventurous weekends that focuses on introducing new and exciting opportunities to learn, have fun and make friends.  Each group is under the supervision of trained staff that not only understands autism spectrum disorders but also knows how to have fun in the great outdoors.  Session themes include: Camping, Hiking, Paddling, Biking, Climbing, Deep Sea Fishing, Shrimping, and Caving.  Along with these opportunities, others are being planned as new ideas develop.  The ARAY program offers a once in a lifetime opportunity for all participants to do things and go places that many only dream about.  For more information about TEAAM's ARAY program please call the TEAAM office at  (601) 733-0090 or toll free at 1-866-993-2437.

MISSION of TEAAM

 PURPOSES of TEAAM

To provide an organization promoting cooperation among those involved in parenting, direct services, training, and research in the area of autism spectrum disorders.
To support the highest standard of services, training, and research in the area of autism spectrum disorders.
To encourage research and to disseminate knowledge in the area of autism spectrum disorders. 
To encourage the recruitment and development of those who work on behalf of people with autism spectrum disorders and to increase student interest in the area of autism spectrum disorders.
 To review and influence public policies in order to promote the welfare of people with autism spectrum disorders, their families, and those who work on their behalf.         
To promote the development of appropriate community based services for people with autism spectrum disorders

 

 

 

Mark H. Yeager, Ph.D., FAAIDD
Biography

Often referred to as the "Father of the Mississippi Autism Movement", Dr. Mark Yeager has been in service to person's with autism spectrum disorders and other intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1975. His experiences range form being a classroom teacher to program developer creating new and innovative community based programs. Dr. Yeager has dedicated his professional career to bettering the opportunities for families affected by autism spectrum disorders through his advocacy and leadership in this field. He is considered the foremost authority in the State of Mississippi on the topic of autism spectrum disorders. His contributions are not limited to Mississippi. He is the author of the Autism Bill of Rights. A document that guides the service delivery system as to the obligation they have in serving individuals with autism spectrum disorders. He is also the lyricist for “A Life with a Different View”, an autism awareness anthem that is used to promote a broad understanding of the challenges and hope for persons diagnosed with an autism spectrum.

Dr. Yeager is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and serves as a adjunct professor both at the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey University. Dr. Yeager both developed and taught the first classes solely dedicated to the topic of autism spectrum disorders at any Mississippi institution of higher learning. His teachings are greatly sought after and include a lecture series provided to the Minister of Education of India. This training series continues to be used as the foundation training program for teachers of children with autism in New Delhi and across the country of India. In addition to his many lecture offerings and presentations, Dr. Yeager is well published in several languages and consults with schools, universities and other autism programs across the United States.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Yeager has worked with the icons in the field of autism. He has worked with and been on program with notable professionals such as Dr. Ruth Sullivan, Dr. Guy Berard, Dr. Ivar Lovaas, Dr. Raun Melmed, Dr. Temple Grandin, Dr. Vincent Carbone, Anabel Stehli, Dennis Debaulbt, Georgianna Thomas, Raun Kaufman and the late Dr. Bernard Rimland. His broad experience and connection to the national and international autism community continues to grow as the field of autism evolves.

Dr. Yeager and his wife, Bridgette, have five children, two girls, Tiffani and Jordan and three boys, Garrett, Mason and Drew. The Yeager's reside in Smith County, Mississippi and work as a family to further the opportunities and causes for persons with an autism spectrum disorder.
