This year's image on the Easter publicity at All Saints may seem a little unusual. The Easter poster and front cover of the leaflet depict a salmon leaping. This is full of symbolic references to Christ and his passion. The salmon's return to its origins to spawn new life is an allegory for Christ's return to his Father in the resurrection bringing new life to the world. The leaping of the salmon recalls Christ's leap from the tomb. The struggle of the salmon to overcome the river's force reminds us of Christ's passion in which he overcomes the forces of evil. Yet the water of the salmon's river is like the water of baptism, with which Easter is associated as Christians are baptised into the death and resurrection of Christ. Finally, the image of the fish is a symbol of Christ; believed to have originated in the similarity between the Greek word for fish and an acrostic of involving the words Jesus Christ, Son of God, Saviour.
The image is from a photo by Chris Blanar, which may be viewed here
