Clickers: Personal Response Systems

What are Clickers (or personal response systems)? (also known as classroom response systems) are remote type devices which students can use to respond to questions presented during a class session. The students’ answers are received by the instructor’s computer, processed by the pre-installed software, and results are projected to the entire class.

What is the tool good for? Clickers can be used for a variety of purposes:

  • Instructors can take attendance by asking students to reply with their clicker response unit
  • Instructors can do a quick survey to gauge students’ understanding of a concept just covered in the class
  • Students can collaborate with classmates and submit group answers
  • Quizzes and tests can be administered using the clicker
  • Homework can be submitted via the student clicker unit
