AGS Conference at Livermore 013PA120104IMG_0104PA120102PA120108AGS11AGS Good-bye6

Alpha Gamma Sigma (ΑΓΣ) Eta Chapter

                             at College of San Mateo

9000Alpha Gamma Sigma (ΑΓΣ) (AGS), founded in 1925, is the honor society of the California Community Colleges system. It was conceived as "an intellectual stimulus, comparable to that of Phi Beta Kappa in the higher colleges" for what were then called junior colleges in California.

AGS supports its members in defining and reaching their goals by encouraging achievement and community service, building social and professional networks, and providing the information and focus needed for success.

Alpha Gamma Sigma, or AGS as it is often called, is the California Community College Scholastic Honor Society.

The Greek Letters in our name were selected because they are the initials from Greek words whose meanings
represent the motto of AGS: "Add to good character, knowledge, and judgment."

ALPHA stands for "Arete" meaning "Excellence"
GAMMA stands for "Gnosis" meaning "Knowledge"
SIGMA stands for "Sophrosyne" meaning "Wisdom"

In an age where meaningless honors abound, AGS membership requires effort!
If you're ready to work, we'd love to have you join us!

You can stop by one of our meetings, which are now Tuesdays @ 2:30pm in 18-301. Right now, due to the student forum being held that day we may end up resheduling our meeting for Friday the 20th. Hi everyone =)
My name is Elena. I want to be a member of AGS.
Do I have to wait till the next membership applications to come out for next semester? Or do I drop-by for one of the AGS meetings to apply? I know that your current meeting time/day is on Wednesday, but I cannot make it on Wednesdays. So please get back to me. I will check back here. Thank you.

We will be supplying membership applications at the next meeting on 9-22-2009. Please remember to bring $15 for your membership fee. Also, if you plan to attend the fall conference at Cabrillo College in Aptos (near Santa Cruz), please remember to bring $25 to cover your registration fee. It is important that your membership application and fee are turned in and paid in full by next Tuesday in order to attend the conference. If you are unable to cover the cost of the conference registration fee, please see Bill Folsom. We would like to see all Eta chapter members attend. Also, I have secured 15 tickets to the Giants vs. Cubs game on 9-27-2009 at $15 per person. If you would like to attend the game, please bring $15 for the ticket to Tuesdays meeting. Any surplus tickets will be released for members' family or friends at $15 per ticket or possibly raffled off on campus to defray the costs. Thanks.

odd... i still have admin powers on this website hahaha

anyway... HOW DID EVERYONE'S SUMMER GO?! Just to let y'all know, i'm back for another round of AGS fun hahahaha. I received a letter awhile back stating that the honors program, due to the lack of budget, has been cut. Any additional information about that?

And how are you guys doing? I have a few friends who have been asking me about the meeting place and time of the club.

On another note, AGS earned $100 by helping out at welcome day. Thanks to those who participated.

Hey guys,
Just a reminder to wear our black t-shirts on the first day of school to raise awareness of our club. We need to set a day/time for our meetings. Tuesdays at 2pm is the front runner at the moment. However, we still need to have a first meeting to decide for sure.
