Warming Up and Stretching

TRAINING SESSION

WHAT DO WE DO?

THE MAIN THING IS TO HAVE FUN.

At the end of the evening the runners should be tired but they will have enjoyed it - mostly!

Training Sessions

The basic staple of the club is the Tuesday night training.  The members are divided into two groups each with at least two coaches. One group will do training exercises and running games at the school and the other group will do a training session around the town. A basic session will consist of:

  • Registration and notices
  • Warm up exercises
  • Training Session divided up  into sections which will include games and competitions
  • Stretching exercises for those tight muscles
  • Feedback - how did it go?

Control Session

Once a month we measure progress by using a session that involves being timed over a certain distance or seeing how far you get in a set time. The good news is that improvement in time or distance often leads to CHOCOLATES for a prize; the bad news is that the next time they have to go faster or further to get the chocolates.

Summer Training

In the Summer we use the school track and focus more on athletics' distances (100m to 1500m) and do some field event work.

Events

  • Team Events: We enter teams in local junior team events. We take part in a Winter 3K five race series at Exeter Arena and we enter the best runners in The Westward League and Devon Championships.
  • Athletics: We do track running and long jump in the Summer
  • Individual Events: We put on our own 3K/5K/10k road races, The Cotleigh Canters and a 3K cross-country event The Hippo Calf. We also encourage the juniors to enter local Fun Runs and other Junior Races.
